On September 26, Weerachart T. Kilenthong, Associate Professor in the School of Economics and Director of the Research Institute for Policy Evaluation and Design (RIPED) at the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC), visited the Institute for Economic and Social Research (IESR).
Professor Weerachart Tee Kilenthong received a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago in 2006, where he studied under Professor Robert M. Townsend. His research interests include human capital, human development, development economics, macroeconomics, contract theory, and financial economics.
Professor Shuaizhang Feng and Professor Weerachart T. Kilenthong
First, Professor Shuaizhang Feng, Dean of IESR, introduced the history of Jinan University and the development of IESR to Professor Weerachart T. Kilenthong. Following his speech, Professor Weerachart T. Kilenthong presented a paper titled “Intergenerational Transmission of Time Preferences: An Evidence from Rural Thailand.”
Next, Professor Yujie Han from IESR shared the relevant research results of the Mianzhu project, followed by an in-depth discussion on the data exchange between the two parties. Professor Weerachart T. Kilenthong emphasized that IESR is committed to carrying out several large-scale survey projects with great research potential and practical significance. He also expressed his hope of strengthening further contact and cooperation with IESR. This academic event received positive comments and feedback from participants.

On September 27, the event ended with a keynote speech entitled “Parenting Home Visitation versus Targeted Cash Transfers for Preschool Children in Thailand,” delivered by Professor Weerachart T. Kilenthong. IESR faculty members and students actively interacted and discussed with Professor Weerachart T. Kilenthong on the parenting home visitation program.
