从 2016 年起,“社会经济不平等”暑期学校项目(Summer School on Socioeconomic Inequality) 由 HCEO 国 际 工 作 组(Human Capital and Economic Opportunity Global Working Group)与暨南大学经济与社会研究院(IESR)共同主办,至今已成功举办五期。暑期课程的授课老师包括康奈尔大学、威斯康星大学麦迪逊分校、多伦多大学、约翰 • 霍普金斯大学、香港科技大学、密歇根大学、暨南大学、西南财经大学等海内外知名高校教授。课程向参与学员展示不平等与人类繁荣(Inequality and Human Flourishing)领域的最新研究结果。在 5 天紧凑的课程学习中,学生们有机会了解 HCEO 工作组是如何把社会学与心理学视角和传统经济学模型结合起来,与国际顶尖学者面对面进行学术讨论,展示自己的研究结果,并与来自世界各地研究机构的同行进行互动交流。

The Human Capital and Economic Opportunity Global Working Group (HCEO) and the Institute for Economic and Social Research (IESR) at Jinan University are delighted to announce their Summer School on Socioeconomic Inequality, Guangzhou 2022. SSSI 2022 will take place over Zoom, from July 11 to 15, 2022.
The summer school will provide a state-of-the-art overview of the study of inequality and human flourishing. Participants will learn about advanced modeling and econometric techniques for understanding and addressing inequality. Through rigorous lectures, students will be exposed to tools needed to study the dynamic processes that produce conditions of inequality and ways to address it. During this intense program, students attend lectures, engage in discussions with leading faculty, present their own research, and interact with peers.
Students are selected from a diverse, competitive applicant pool and represent many disciplines including: economics, public policy, sociology, social thought, and social work. Faculty are selected by SSSI directors from the field of economics.

James J. Heckman
The University of Chicago
James J. Heckman is a 2000 Nobel Laureate in Economics and the Henry Schultz Distinguished Service Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago. He is Director of the Center for the Economics of Human Development (CEHD) and Co-Director of Human Capital and Economic Opportunity Global Working Group (HCEO) at the University of Chicago. Professor Heckman has worked closely with IESR since its launch in late 2015 and now serves as Chair of the IESR Advisory Board.
Petra Todd
University of Pennsylvania
Petra Todd is the Edmund J. and Louise W. Kahn Term Professor of Economics at University of Pennsylvania. Professor Todd is also a Research Associate of Penn’s Population Studies Center. She serves as an Associate Editor for the American Economic Review and the Journal of Human Capital.
Her main fields of research are social program evaluation, labor economics, and microeconometrics. She has published papers on the determinants of cognitive achievement, testing for discrimination in motor vehicle searches, sources of racial wage disparities, and methods for evaluating and optimally designing conditional cash transfer programs.
She is currently working on implementing a large-scale randomized school incentive program in Mexican high schools, on analyzing the effects of school vouchers in Chile and on assessing the effects of government regulation on the operation of the privatized pension market in Chile.
Yingyao Hu
Johns Hopkins University
Yingyao Hu is a professor of economics at Johns Hopkins University. He is a Fellow of the Journal of Econometrics and have served on the editorial boards of several journals.
His research interests include micro-econometrics, empirical industrial organization, and labor economics. He is particularly interested in application-oriented econometrics, where the econometric methods are closely integrated with the economic theory or story.
Professor Hu have published in many leading journals in economics and statistics, such as American Economic Review, Econometrica, Journal of the American Statistical Association, Journal of Econometrics, Games and Economic Behavior, Journal of Population Economics, and Journal of Comparative Economics.
Xiaoxia Shi
University of Wisconsin–Madison
Xiaoxia Shi is a Lowell and Leila Robinson Professor at the Economics Department of the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Her research interests include inference for moment inequality models, identification and inference in discrete choice models, and model selection tests. She has published papers in Econometrica, Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Econometrics, Econometric Theory, Quantitative Economics, etc. She is on the editorial board of Review of Economics and Statistics, and is an associate editor at Quantitative Economics and Econometric Theory.
Yu-Chin Hsu
Institute of Economics, Academia Sinica
Yu-Chin Hsu is a research fellow in Institute of Economics, Academia Sinica and an adjunct associate professor in Department of Finance, National Central University and Department of Economics, National Chengchi University. His research focuses on econometrics.
【Who can apply?】
The summer school is open to Ph.D. students, early postdoctoral scholars, and junior faculty from around the world. There is no program fee for admitted students.
