The Brookings Institution and Jinan University are pleased to announce the second joint annual conference on applied microeconomics, which will be held at the Institute for Economic and Social Research (IESR) at Jinan University, Guangzhou. The conference will pay for the travel and accommodation costs of authors who are selected to present a paper. Submission deadline: April 19, 2020 .
The 2020 conference will be held on Friday October 16 and Saturday October 17, 2020. We welcome proposals in all areas of microeconomics. We do attempt to encourage a theme if possible. This year we will give preference to papers in labor economics, including but not limited to labor market policy, child and youth education, employment and unemployment, rural-urban migration, and labor market discrimination. Again, we will consider submissions in other areas of applied microeconomics. Each paper presented at the conference will have a formal discussant and will also receive comments from the other conference participants.
Please submit a 3-5 page proposal or a full paper to no later than April 19, 2020. The conference will pay for the travel and accommodation costs of authors who are selected to present a paper. The contact author will be notified of acceptance or rejection of his/her paper via email by May 3, 2020.
We ask that authors agree to submit a summary of their research after the conference to be included in the Papers and Proceedings of Brookings-Jinan China Microeconomic Policy Forum 2020, no later than November 17, 2020. This post-conference publication will include a summary of each research project presented, a summary of each discussant’s view, and a summary of general discussion. Brookings in 1927, although the institution traces its beginnings to 1916, when a group of leading reformers founded the Institute for Government Research (IGR), the first private organization devoted to analyzing public policy issues at the national level. The Institute for Economic and Social Research (IESR) was founded at Jinan University in December 2015. Since then, IESR has played a leading role in economics education, research, public service, and international cooperation. Operating under the leadership of internationally renowned scholars, including Professor Shuaizhang Feng as Dean and Professor James Heckman as Chair of the Advisory Board, IESR currently has 42 full-time faculty members, many of whom are graduates of renowned institutions such as Yale University, University of Chicago, LSE, UC Berkeley, and UCLA. Research at IESR covers all major economic fields, and undergraduate and graduate students receive rigorous training in economics. The Institute runs a Survey Data Center for data collection and management, as well as a Center for Policy Research that adopts the motto Think globally, Act locally for policy analysis and evaluation.
