Abstract:
This study analyzes the impact of the HSR on the labor market in China, based on the representative micro data Census and Mini-Census. Using the difference-in-difference (DID) regression, the study finds that the opening of HSR has negative effect on out-migration, while positive effect on in-migration. In addition, the opening of HSR has negative effect on employment of urban natives, while positive effect on the employment of urban residents including migrants. The channel is highly related with the effect of the HSR on the local housing rents and industry distribution.
