June 17-21, 2017,
Jinan University, Guangzhou, China
The School of Economics and the Institute for Economic and Social Research at Jinan University are pleased to announce a five-day summer school on spatial econometrics, which takes place on June 17-21, 2017 in Guangzhou. Professor Paul Elhorst will give a series of lectures on spatial econometrics at our school. He will present different model specifications and their corresponding estimators, as well as critically discuss the purposes for which these models can be used and how their results should be interpreted. Special attention is paid to the interpretation of spatial spillover effects. He will also present how to estimate spatial econometrics in Matlab. His lectures will cover the following topics:
Introduction to Spatial Econometric Modeling
Estimation of Spatial Econometric Models
The SLX Approach, Bayesian Comparison Approach
Static Models Based on Spatial Panels
Dynamic Spatial Panel Data Models
Common Factors
Practicum Estimation of Spatial Econometric Models with Matlab
Paul Elhorst is Professor of Spatial Econometrics at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands, and Editor-in-Chief of Spatial Economic Analysis. He has published many refereed articles on spatial econometrics in peer reviewed journals, among which are Journal of Applied Econometrics, Journal of Regional Science, Regional Science and Urban Economics and Spatial Economic Analysis. In 2014 he published the book Spatial Econometrics: From Cross-sectional Data to Spatial Panels, which is also translated into Chinese. Over the years he also provided several Matlab routines on spatial econometrics at his website, which are widely used by scholars.
We aim to select a group of postgraduate students and junior researchers who are keen to learn spatial econometrics in the summer school. For those who are interested in participating in the summer school, please send a note of interest and motivation plus CV to ssse.gz2017@outlook.com as soon as possible but not later than May 1st, 2017. There is no registration fee for attending the summer school. Participants need only to pay their own cost of accommodation and transportation. Participants willing to present their own research using spatial econometric techniques (please indicate) are especially welcome.
We will select candidates on a rolling basis. Early applications are welcome. For further information, please contact Miss Caixia Liu at ssse.gz2017@outlook.com.
