Workshop on “The structural approach to understanding the Chinese economy” July 20th 2016

The theme of the workshop is “The structural approach to understanding the Chinese economy”. The workshop was joined by Prof. Russell Cooper of Pennsylvania State University, Assistant Professor Naijia Guo from Chinese University of Hong Kong, Professor Heng Yin from Central South University, Assistant Professor Peng Zhang from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Assistant Professor Yi Chen from Xi’an Jiaotong University and Prof. Xianghong Wang from Renmin University of China.

All the speakers have presented their recent research on Chinese economy from various perspectives using structural approach. As the keynote speaker of the workshop, Prof. Cooper gave a presentation of his paper “Costly Labor Adjustment: General Equilibrium Effects of China’s Employment Regulations and Financial Reforms”. Assistant Professor Naijia Guo was the discussant of Prof. Cooper’s paper.

The second presentation was given by Assistant Professor Naijia Guo of the paper “ Labor Market Dynamics and Long Term Unemployment in Urban China: The Role of the State Sector”. Prof. Cooper was the discussant of the paper. 


Prof. Heng Yin delivered a presentation of his paper “ Cost and Product Advantages: A Firm-level Model for the Chinese Exports and Industry Growth”. Assistant Professor Peng Zhang was the discussant of the paper.

 The last presentation was given by Assistant Professor Yi Chen of the paper “Never Too Old to Save – Explaining the High Saving Rates of the Chinese Elderly”. Professor Xianghong Wang was the discussant of the paper.
