From September 7 to 8, the 2026 IESR-Warwick Joint Workshop, jointly organized by the Institute for Economic and Social Research (IESR) at Jinan University and the Department of Economics at the University of Warwick, was held at Jinan University. The event brought together scholars to discuss a range of topics in labor economics, economic history, and econometrics.

The opening remarks were delivered by Professor Shuaizhang Feng, Dean of IESR, and Professor Mingli Chen from the Department of Economics at the University of Warwick.

In his welcome remarks, Professor Shuaizhang Feng warmly welcomed all the guests on behalf of IESR and provided a brief overview of the history of Jinan University. He noted that, as a relatively young institute compared with Jinan University, IESR is committed not only to advancing academic research but also to undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral education. He expressed his hope for deeper collaboration among IESR, the University of Warwick, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and Shandong University in research and talent development in the future.

Welcome Speech by Professor Shuaizhang Feng

Following Professor Feng’s remarks, Professor Mingli Chen expressed her heartfelt gratitude to IESR for its warm hospitality on behalf of the Department of Economics at the University of Warwick. She noted that it was once again a great honor to communicate and interact with IESR faculty at this year’s workshop and expressed her enthusiasm for further collaboration in the future.

During the presentation sessions, sixteen speakers presented their latest research in labor economics and econometrics, often jointly with their collaborators. The presentations were followed by lively discussions and active interaction with the audience.

The two-day workshop concluded with fruitful academic exchanges and positive feedback from the participants.
