Lecture of Prof. Scott Rozelle from Stanford University has been successfully held at IESR

At the invitation of Prof. Shuaizhang Feng, Dean of the Institute for Economic and Social Research, Prof. Scott Rozelle delivered a presentation on Rural China’s Human Capital and Challenges to the Economy’s Long-term Stability Growth. Over 300 participants globally participated in the virtual lecture.

 




Prof. Rozelle is the Helen F. Farnsworth Senior Fellow and the co-director of the Rural Education Action Program in the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University. He currently is a member of several organizations, including the American Economics Association, the International Association for Agricultural Economists, and the Association for Asian Studies. He also serves on the editorial boards of Economic Development and Cultural Change, Agricultural Economics, the Australian Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics, and the China Economic Review. Prof. Rozelle’s papers have been published in top academic journals, including Science, Nature, American Economic Review, and the Journal of Economic Literature.


 

Prof. Rozelle’s lecture focused on the challenges to China’s economy’s long-term growth from the perspective of rural China’s human capital. He described the relations between regional development and the accumulation of human capital, followed by the explanation of the reasons for human capital inequality and further his insights into the potential solutions. The lecture ended with a heated discussion and received positive feedback from the participants.
